Beat*Society - Soulspazm

Beat*Society
Biography

Beat Society, the brainchild of the independent label Soulspazm, is one of those rare things in life – a new idea. Founded as a dot-com in April 2002, Beat Society sprang into life as an innovative and original venture for highlighting the art of beat making within Hip-Hop. The producer is a key element in hip-hop and, until the Beat Society movement, was largely operating behind the scenes. Since day one, Beat Society’s mission has been to draw these masterminds out from the confines of their studios and into the spotlight.

A movement that started as an online community where producers could share their music, network with their peers, and even sell their music, the website compiled a library of user driven production exceeding five thousand four months after launching. The concept for the live show was a response from the success of the website and was produced in November of 2002 in Philadelphia, PA. Since then close to 40 shows have taken place in Philly, New York, LA, DC, Toronto, Atlanta, Seattle, and Austin. The show focuses on 4–6 producers engaging in an intimate display of their talents as producers. To further engage the audience, vocalists and rappers are enlisted to show the synthesis of music and lyric.
